Important Information:
This is an OUTDOOR nature-based preschool program
This program is designed for families seeking fully outdoor experience. Located in a dedicated space across from the demonstration gardens at Carkeek Park. Children learn and play outside in all seasons, building resilience, confidence and a deep connection to nature.
Each day includes hiking, exploration and hands-on discovery throughout the Park. With the support of caring teachers, children engage in meaningful learning experiences inspired by the environment around them. Our outdoors classroom is thoughtfully set up with tents and canopies to provide extra protection in helping the children to stay comfortable in changing weather. For added safety and peace of mind, we also have access to indoor space during emergencies such as extreme weather etc.
100% outdoor year-round learning.
Daily hikes and immersive exploration of the park
Natural based curriculum combining HighScope, Learning in Places and Since Time Immemorial.
- Children will need weather appropriate gear to safely stay warm during the winter months (Recommended to have wool or synthetic based layers – no cotton, warm fleece layer over top, rain gear to keep base layers dry, hiking shoes/waterproof).
- Lunch is often eaten at picnic tables or on blankets if on a hike.
- There are two dedicated porta potties (one being ADA accessible), and a portable toilet for backwoods toileting if necessary. Not for public use (for children in program only).
- Rest/nap time on cots in tents.
- 3 teachers to support classroom (1:6 ratio).

Income is not an eligibility factor however families must submit proof of income so it can determine what, if any, tuition may be owed. • SPP generally follows the Seattle Public Schools calendar, including breaks and closures, and runs for 180 days from September to June. • SPP operates as a full-time preschool program running 6 hours per day, 5 days per week. Flexible schedules, such as part-day or 3 days per week, are not an option. • SPP does not offer transportation.
